Chase Tone Secret Preamp
For your consideration, Garrett Park Music presents this Chase Tone Secret Preamp.
The Chase Tone Secret Preamp is a faithful, compact replica of the sought-after solid-state preamp circuit found in specific desirable 1970s Maestro Echoplex EP-3 tape delay units. It is designed to be an "always on" tone enhancer that adds harmonic complexity, touch sensitivity, and a subtle "3D" quality to a guitar signal.
Key Features and Sound
- Tone Enhancement: It adds a subtle compression and a slight phase shift that enhances mid and high-frequency harmonics, making the tone sound fuller, richer, and more "alive".
- Dynamic Response: The pedal is highly responsive to playing dynamics and feels like a natural extension of a tube amplifier, adding clarity and presence, especially with single-coil pickups.
- Circuit Accuracy: It uses vintage-spec components like a hand-picked 1970s JFET and Orange Drop 225P capacitors to ensure an authentic sound. It also features internal voltage regulation to run at the original EP-3's 22V+ power for optimal headroom and feel.
Controls and Modes
- Volume: A single large "chickhead" knob controls the output level, offering unity gain around 11 o'clock and a slight boost at higher settings.
- Mode Switch (Bright/Dark/Mid): A small toggle switch on the side offers three distinct EQ voicings:
- Bright: Replicates the tone of early EP-3 units, adding chime and clarity.
- Dark: Replicates the tone of later, warmer EP-3 iterations, adding body and smoothing out harsh overtones.
This pedal is previoiusly owned, but is fully functional and in excellent condition. The original box is included.
